Why Republican's have to get out the vote in 2006

Democratic leaders, increasingly confident they will seize control of the House in November, are laying plans for a legislative blitz during their first week in power that would raise the minimum wage, roll back parts of the Republican prescription drug law, implement homeland security measures and reinstate lapsed budget deficit controls.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said in an interview last week that a Democratic House would launch a series of investigations of the Bush administration, beginning with the White House's first-term energy task force and probably including the use of intelligence in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. Pelosi denied Republican allegations that a Democratic House would move quickly to impeach President Bush. But, she said of the planned investigations, "You never know where it leads to."

In recent days, Democratic confidence has been buoyed by a series of polls indicating that not only is Bush growing increasingly unpopular, so are Republicans in Congress.

Our National Day of Prayer

I was so busy this week I forgot about the National Day of Prayer! Shame on me! I will honor our nation today, as I do every day. I'm am glad to be an American living in a country free to practice my religion. From the President's comments here:

Prayer is a gift from Almighty God that transforms us, whether we bow our heads in solitude, or offer swift and silent prayers in times of trial. Prayer humbles us by reminding us of our place in creation. Prayer strengthens us by reminding us that God loves and cares for each and every soul in His creation.  And prayer blesses us by reminding us that there is a divine plan that stands above all human plans.

In the stillness and peace of prayer we surrender our will to God's will, and we learn to serve His eternal purposes.  By opening ourselves to God's priorities, our hearts are stirred and we are inspired to action -- to feed the hungry, to reach out to the poor, to bring aid to a widow or to an orphan or to the less fortunate.

OC school attendance yesterday

From the OC Register:

Santa Ana Unified had 2,921 absences districtwide, about 5 percent of enrollment. The figures were typical for a Monday, district spokeswoman Susan Brandt said.

 

Garden Grove Unified reported absentee rates of nearly 10 percent at a handful of schools with high concentrations of Latino students, district spokesman Alan Trudell said.

 

Newport-Mesa Unified reported slightly higher absentee rates at Costa Mesa and Estancia high schools.

 

Anaheim Union had about double the usual number of absentees at all schools.

 

Absenteeism in Orange Unified was at least double at Orange and El Modena highs and four times the usual rate at Santiago Middle.

 

Tustin Unified had absences rise from 750 on an average day to 1,712 Monday.

 

Seven schools in Capistrano Unified had higher-than-normal absences.

 

Saddleback Valley Unified reported no discernable differences.

Dreyfuss said media coverage of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York was a pertinent example of how a non-stop supply of images and spot news shaped people's views.

I know that the anger, rage and clear thinking occurred on Flight 93 on that 9/11 day. And they never did see the TV coverage of the WTC.

I perfectly know who we are fighting, the Isamic-Fascists who want to obviate our way of life. When the second plane went into the North Tower I knew who did it! OBL and his ilk. And we should not be afraid. The President said,

We understand our enemy. They want us dead. They want to destroy our culture and way of life. They want to destroy the Jews and the Christians. We can't let them win.

Day without Illegals!

Legal Citizens reported the freeways were clear yesterday and commute times were very short. Many drivers had licenses and auto insurance! There were no waiting lines in the emergency hospitals. Children reported they actually learned something  at school with the Spanish speakers staying home I'm going to write to the President, My congressman and Senators about how a day without Illegal Immigrants makes us citizens  more  productive, healthy and eager to learn! Let our leaders in Washington know we as Citizens can improve our standard of living! Stop Illegal Immigration!

The Hunt for ZarQawi

We're getting closer to capturing the bad guy Zarqawi. Check out the map here. SpecOps Unit Task Force 145 has captured and killed Zarqawi''s followers. They nabbed three suicide bombers with one of the bombs going off. It just killed the suicide guy, no other fatalities.

“Who’s the biggest threat right now?” the source said. “In military terms, bin Laden has been neutralized. He’s not going anywhere. He can’t really move. His communications are shallow. … Zarqawi is a bigger threat.”

 

In addition, he noted, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf’s refusal to let U.S. forces operate in Pakistan reduces the utility of keeping a large JSOC force in Afghanistan awaiting actionable intel on bin Laden’s location.

Iraqi forces kill A-Q guy

Glad to hear Iraqi forces have killed a local A-Q guy:

Iraqi forces killed a local al-Qaida in Iraq leader and two other insurgents in a raid north of Baghdad on Friday, and roadside bombs killed an American soldier and an Iraqi policeman, officials said.

Iraqi commando forces acting on a tip raided a house where Hamid al-Takhi and the two other insurgents were hiding in Samarra, a city 60 miles north of Baghdad, said police Capt. Laith Mohammed. All three were killed in a gunbattle.

Mohammed said al-Takhi had been responsible for many insurgent attacks against coalition forces and civilians in the area.
